Being composed largely of glass, a conservatory will act as a surprisingly effective heat trap. Like a greenhouse, the sun's heat get in through the glass and with modern double pane glazing units can't get out again. Turning what should be an area for comfortable relaxation into an oven. The most common solution to this is blinds and many conservatories have one form of these fitted.

But blinds have their own drawbacks.

  • There will be a small gap between the blind and the window, which acts as a small heat sink, radiating the heat into the conservatory.
  • Fabric or wooden blinds will fade from exposure to UV light from the sun over time.
  • Blinds will act as traps for dust and insects and can be very hard to effectively clean.

If you have even a medium sized conservatory it can be time consuming opening and closing all of the blinds. To solve this you can pay for expensive automated blinds or leave them closed all of the time. The latter somewhat defeats the point of having a conservatory in the first place. Window film is a far more cost effective way of keeping out excessive heat and glare, as well as UV radiation.

Blinds are effective at blocking the sun's UV light and will help stop your furniture from fading. On the downside, they block the view as well. By opting for window film instead you can reduce the glare from the sun by up to 90%, reduce the absorbtion of the sun's heat by up to 85% and still enjoy unobstructed views of your garden.

When fitting conservatory blinds the brackets and header rails need to be properly attached to the frame. This means that the fitter must drill holes into the conservatory. Even if it is the company that supplied and erected your conservatory doing this, it could invalidate the manufacturer's warranty.

Solar Protection Window Film is applied directly to the glass. There is no need for brackets or header rails so no need for drilling holes in the frames. So the warranty on the conservatories window frames will not be made void. Because of the nature of the window film, it adds strength to the glass without causing any damage.

Cleaning window film couldn't be easier. A quick wipe down once in a while will keep it sparkling. Solar protecion window film is inert and designed to block UV light so it won't fade or wrinkle. Obviously, this UV blocking also benefits your health, protecting you from the harmful effects of this invisible danger.

Solar Protecion Window Film can also be supplied for use on conservatory doors, patio doors or French Windows. This specialist film is far harder wearing, and will resist scratching by dogs or cats. It also provides protection from accidents or intruders by holding the glass in the frame even if it gets shattered.
