Imagine you’ve moved into a new house, started decorating, and pulled up that hideous carpet in the lounge. Underneath is a gorgeous wooden floor which could if sanded and finished correctly be the most beautiful wooden floor you’ve ever seen. For the best results a professional should be employed. Using Lagler technology from Germany they can generate an excellent quality dust free sanded floor completed with a professional touch.
Depending on the state of the floor the correct grade of sand paper is ascertained. The sanding process begins with a 40 or 60 grit sandpaper and finished sanding with 100 grit paper. The procedure for the edges is done in a similar way. The floor is then "screened" or finished with a large three disc rotary sander to blend the two processes into one.
If you step on to any hardwood flooring you'll appreciate the warm and welcoming shades and colours that they come in. As one of the world’s most multipurpose floor coverings not only do you get traditional beauty but also convenient advantages such as enduring good looks, stain resistance, warm to the touch, easy to wash, fully restorable, clean and dust free, especially good for any allergy sufferers.
Like ceramics, hardwood floors are recognised as a high quality building material. They are enduring and entirely renewable with very little effort. Solid wood floors are also stylish, modest and above all, sought-after which means that they can add value of your home.
The graceful and classy look of hardwood flooring can undoubtedly add warmth and quality to any room. The natural features of wood can add depth and a visual appearance that many other types of floors cannot replicate. The demand for hardwood flooring is ever growing and new ranges are being improved in terms of the superiority of finish and more complicated manufacture techniques.
Hardwood flooring comes in a diversity of wood species, colours and widths. With so many varieties of hardwood flooring you can be sure to find something that best suits your needs. Oak flooring is one of the most popular hardwood floors. Choice of grades from Rustic (with lots of knots and varied colour) to prime (uniform colour with no knots). You can also select a number of different finishes, including oil, lacquer, and wax.
Pine is also a trendy hardwood flooring choice, there is the added advantage that the product is environmentally friendly. In its natural state pine gives an exquisite golden colour and will add style and panache to any room, inevitably the pine will dull down with wear but can be re-stained darker if required. |

Devon floor sanding specialists Total Floor Care, offer a range of wood floor restoration services, including floor sanding and wood finishes.
Until more recently, houses were constructed with solid wood floors. However since the invention of the fitted carpet, most people have regarded floorboards as nothing more than a structure in which to lay the carpet. This is a great shame a well prepared natural wood floor can look great, are very hardwearing and are easy to keep clean.
People are now widely using laminate flooring, but why spend thousands of pounds laminating the rooms in your house (leveling and underlay may be required) when you most probably have good quality wooden floorboards hidden underneath your carpet.
Sanding a floor professionally is an art! It takes great skill, patience and experience to get a good quality finish on the wood. At Total Floor Care our expert teams of floor-sanders are specialists in all types of sanding and finishing. We have the latest and most advanced equipment for sanding and wood floor maintenance that are virtually DUST FREE.
The first step that we take at Total Floor Care in the sanding process is to fix any loose boards and check for vulnerable wires and heating pipes before the boards are nailed down again, avoiding burst water pipes etc.
If you are having the gaps filled between the boards this comes next. The filler or wood strips will be level with the boards after sanding.
If you have wide gaps in your floor, gap filling should be considered, it effectively plugs the gaps so that air and dust cannot rise through them in to the room. The floorboards would have originally been fairly tightly laid. The natural shrinking of wood means that over time gaps can exceed 5mm in width.
At Total Floor Care, we fill the gaps in the floorboards with strips of wood cut to the correct thickness. Other companies may use filler but this will crack and fall through over time, particularly if the gap is in excess of 3mm. We would then finish the gap filling by sanding the pieces of wood down so that they are level with the rest of the floor.
Once our expert floor sanders are satisfied that the floor boards are clean and smooth they will only then begin begin the staining of the wood, if required, and begin applying the varnish.

Floor Tile Restoration throughout Devon and Somerset.
There are a number of ways that you can enhance your area with a stone or tile mosaic. For many years Floor Tile Restoration has specialised in supplying products and services for the restoration of tiled floors.
Floor Tile Restorers often specialise in Geometric Floor tiles and Fireplaces. In particular many have vast experience and knowledge of the restoration and reproduction of Victorian tiled floors which is recognised throughout the heritage industry.
For Ecclesiastical and Large scale restoration projects we offer a full consultancy service, and for domestic customers we can supply made to measure hand cut replacement tiles and cleaning products to help restore original floors to their former glory.
Many Victorian and Edwardian geometric floors have suffered damage over the years. These are valuable and practical features of period properties and we offer a service to replace lost or damaged tiles.
These floors (sometimes referred to as tessellated floors) were featured in entrance halls and on front paths of houses (and many commercial premises) from mid -Victorian times up to the 1930's.
Designs are made up of triangles, squares, trapeziums, hexagons and octagons in a variety of colours.
Often included in the designs are encaustic tiles, which are usually (but not always) square tiles, with a pattern embossed on them in layers of different coloured clay. Most often these are in two colours, but can be found in three, four or even five colours.
Preserving the Beauty of Historic Tiles.
There is really no substitute for the texture and patina of old tiles, worn by generations of foot steps. But, when these tiles break, flake, or begin to fall apart from loosening or water exposure, then it is time to take protective steps.
Floor Tile Restoration can repair these tiles, both glazed and encaustic, so that these forms of degradation are less noticeable to the eye. In addition, steps can be taken to help protect this tiles if positioned in an area exposed to heavy traffic or the elements.
