 The
picturesque harbour town of Brixham has a history
stretching back more than a thousand years, its
historic fortifications and deep water anchorage
established the town as a guardian of the beautiful
Torbay.
Brixham's renown as a fishing port also spans several centuries and fishing is still very much in evidence as the principal occupation of many of the inhabitants.
Another major source of local employment is Nortel, the telecommunications company . They are situated a short distance from the town and they have provided much beneficial employment to the local economy.
Brixham thrives as a popular holiday town, providing a convenient locality from where many attractions can be reached and this ensures that the town remains both a popular resort and a pleasant place in which to live.
 The
town occupies an enviable position on the southern
edge of Torbay. Forming a promontory to the south
is Berry Head from where breathtaking coastal
views as far as Exmouth can be enjoyed. The harbour
and Marina provide a scene of busy boating and
fishing activities that are a pleasure to observe.
A major advantage of this attractive locality is the accessibility of both the sandy beaches of Torbay and the neighbouring shopping towns of Torquay and Paignton. The town of Kingswear is also nearby, connected by ferry to Dartmouth from where the beautiful South Hams countryside can be reached. |
