 Totnes
is an ancient medieval market town, located in
the picturesque valley of the River Dart within
the beautiful South Hams area of South Devon.
Lying between its 13th Century castle and the river banks set against the background of many original Tudor and Elizabethan buildings, the town has a character so individual that it has become a nerve centre for many cultural and creative activities. The town's high street has a wide range of interesting and imaginative shops and there is a bustling, established market every Friday and Saturday.
Totnes itself has a wide variety of properties ranging from traditional town houses in the centre to modern developments on the outskirts. The character and heritage of the surrounding villages is reflected in the period properties which are available, as well as a wide range of more modern and individual houses to suit all tastes and requirements.
 There
are excellent primary schools and comprehensive
schools, such as King Edward VI College, which
enjoy a wide reputation. The nearest Grammar schools
are at Torquay and Churston and there are also
a selection of private schools in the area.
There is easy access by road to both Exeter and Plymouth with main railway links to London and Paddington and Penzance in Cornwall, making Totnes an ideal location for commuters.
The Coastal resorts of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham commonly known as the 'English Rivera' are just a few miles away and offer a more comprehensive range of facilities and shops. To the North West of Totnes lies the Dartmoor National Park. |
