 Penzance
is the largest and main market town in the district
of Penwith with a resident population in the region
of 22,000. Situated approximately 10 miles from
Lands End, it is easily accessed from the A30
and is well served by mainline rail services.
It acts as a touring centre for the Penwith peninsula which is steeped in history and boasts a wealth of stone circles and Celtic sites as well as mile after mile of some of the most beautiful coastal scenery in the country.
 The
ancient town of Marazion is approximately 3 miles
to the east, set in the corner of Mounts Bay with
spectacular views to St Michael's Mount. There
are regular air and sea links to the nearby Isles
of Scilly and the regional fishing port and working
harbour of Newlyn can be found approximately 1
mile to the west. Beyond Newlyn lies the tiny
harbour of Mousehole, well worth a visit at any
time but especially during December when the village
is illuminated by an impressive light display.
The historic town of Helston is 15 miles to the east, beyond which lies the Lizard Peninsula, an area of outstanding beauty and dramatic contrasts. Goonhilly Earth Station stands high on the windswept summit whilst the tiny and picturesque villages of Cadgwith and Mullion nestle on the pretty coastline.
Of the many tourist features in the area the Minnack Open Air Theatre is a summer favourite whilst the nearby Flambards Victorian Village and Theme Park is one of the region's leading family attractions. |
