 St
Ives is situated within a sheltered bay on the
picturesque North Coast of Cornwall and mainly
known for its picturesque harbour and artistic
connections.
The Island, with its little fisherman's chapel of St Nicholas is a major landmark across the whole of the bay. The working harbour supplies the town's many restaurants and a wide variety of shops cater for both the resident and the holiday-maker.
The area around the award-winning Porthmeor Beach is a haven for ornithologists, being on the migratory route of many rare birds. Seals, porpoises and dolphins are also often seen in the bay. Sporting facilities in the area include rugby, golf and tennis and of course, surfing and diving.
 Hayle
lies within 2 miles of St Ives on a 3 mile stretch
of golden beach at the eastern end of the bay
and boasts a wide variety of shops and facilities,
including a main line railway station with inter-city
links via Plymouth.
At present plans are underway for a major redevelopment scheme in the Harbour and Estuary area which will attractively combine Marine, Leisure and Commercial facilities with residential housing whilst still preserving the original character of the area.
The local schools cater for all ages and all have an excellent reputation. The neighbouring towns of Penzance, Camborne, Helston and Redruth are in a 10 mile radius and there is direct access to the A30 dual carriageway. Truro, the attractive county town of the Duchy is approximately 20 minutes to the north east. |
