 Wellington
is a popular and busy former Market Town approximately
7 miles to the west of Taunton. It has first class
motorway communications via the M5 motorway and
is within easy access of mainline railway stations
in nearby Taunton and Tiverton Parkway. With a
growing population of about 12000 people Wellington
has seen recent housing development to its southern
and western outskirts, a welcome addition to the
town and a benefit for the future.
The town centre, an unspoilt High Street of Victorian origins, offers a good range of small stores and shops in addition to national outlets such as Boots, W.H. Smith and various supermarkets. Somerset's County Town, Taunton, offers a more comprehensive range of day to day facilities including a recently built out of town retail park just off the M5 at Junction 25. Taunton also offers a public golf course and three surrounding private courses.
 Wellington
offers educational facilities to include nursery,
primary and secondary schools and the very popular
private Wellington School. Leisure facilities
are well catered for with a sports centre, newly
refurbished cinema and a variety sports clubs
to suit all ages and abilities. Rural pursuits
including horse riding, fishing, walking etc are
to be found on the nearby Blackdowns, an area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Quantock and
Brendon Hills are also within easy distance, as
are the beautiful National Parks of Exmoor and
Dartmoor. |
