Cornwall Renewable Energy Ground Source Heat Pumps
Cornwall Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground source heat pumps provide one of the most clean and environmentally friendly methods of providing heat for any type of building. They utilise the renewable energy which is stored in the ground. This provides one of the most efficient means of heating in terms of energy expended. These ground source heat pumps are suitable for practically any type of building and are especially suited for use in developments where a low environmental impact is desired.

These ground source heat pumps do not require hot rocks as with geothermal energy. They are also suitable for installation across most of the UK. They require the use of either a borehole or a series of shallow trenches. It is also possible (although used far less common) to extract heat from a body of water, such as pond or lake. Heat is collected in pipes which are laid in a closed loop and contain water (mixed with a small quantity of antifreeze) and this absorbs this heat stored in the soil, this water can then provide both space heating and domestic hot water.

Your home may not have the room for sufficient trenches to be dug to form a 'Horizontal Loop'. In this case a Borehole or 'Vertical Loop' system is most appropriate. One or more boreholes will be drilled down to a pre-determined depth. A pipe is then fitted into the borehole, usually either 32mm or 40mm pipe (around 1.25 or 1.5 inches). The pipe forms a loop which is then connected at both ends into a manifold that is connected to the heat pump. Water with antifreeze is then pumped through the system. This water absorbs the heat from the ground. The difference in the waters temperature between leaving and returning to the pump is enough to be passed through a compressor and used for heating your home.

It is important for the borehole to be drilled and constructed correctly. Particularly, attention needs to be paid in grouting of the hole properly. Ground Source Heat Pump Boreholes need a close fitting pipe in the borehole, any gaps between the pipe and the soil mean that the system will not be as effective as it should.

Our own Geothermal rig is specifically designed for drilling to our needs. It is built inside the UK, so it conforms to all relevant Health and Safety regulations. The Dando MTEC 6 is one of the smallest rigs available anywhere in the world and is able to pass through gaps just 1400mm wide (barely 4.5 ft). This lets us drill in many sites where access is restricted (e.g. narrow entry ways). The size of the rig has no affect on its performance, it can comfortably drill to depths of over 150M (500 ft).

We have the experience and expertise in drilling boreholes for Ground Source Heat Pumps. Our teams can drill the borehole to the supplier’s exact specification. We can even offer advice on the suitable number of boreholes and what depth will be required to your chosen supplier. We work very closely with several well respected suppliers and installers of ground source heat pumps and are happy to make a recommendation.

Geologic Boreholes and Systems welcome the opportunity to discuss with you your interest in any aspect of Ground Source Heat Pumps and exactly how they would work for you in heating your home or office or any building that you want to keep warm using a renewable source.

Geologic Boreholes and Systems are committed to the highest quality in customer service.

"I cannot praise highly enough the standard of service I have received for Geologic Boreholes & Systems Ltd, highly enough..." - Rod B. Taunton.

Geological Boreholes are specialists in the drilling and equipping of boreholes and work across Devon and Cornwall.

Cornwall Renewable Energy Wood Pellets, Pellet Stove Suppliers
Cornwall Renewable Energy

Cornwall Pellet Stove suppliers, Stove Shop are based in Liskeard in Cornwall but supply wood pellet stoves and multi fuel stoves, throughout the Cornwall and Devon area and also have an online shop for supply throughout the UK.

Stove Shop provide advice and information on the benefits of having a wood pellet stove installed in your home.

As the cost of heating with natural gas and fuel oils continues to rise and there is increased pressure to find an alternative energy solution to fossil fuels, homes and businesses are being pushed towards the use of wood pellet stoves as a means of generating heat.

A large number of models of pellet stoves, central heating furnaces and other heating appliances have been developed and marketed since about 1999. With the surge in the price of fossil fuels in 2005, the demand for wood pellet stoves and multi fuel stoves has increased all over Europe and a sizable industry is emerging.

What are Wood Pellets?

Wood pellets are a type of wood fuel, generally speaking they are made from compacted sawdust. They are normally produced as a byproduct of sawmilling and other wood transformation activities.

The wood pellets are extremely dense and can be produced with a low humidity content of below 10% which allows the pellets to be burned with an extremely high combustion efficiency.

The pellets high density also permits compact storage and rational transport over long distance. They can be conveniently blown from a tanker to a storage bunker or silo on a customer's premises.

Wood pellet which is a carbon neutral fuel solution has become one of the most economic biomass fuels the world can provide. Unlike fossil fuels, biomass fuels are a managed renewable resource.

Biomass fuels are carbon neutral, and would help to counter act the impacts of climate change, as they don't add any carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.

This is because the same amount of carbon dioxide is released during the burning process as is absorbed whilst growing, as long as plants continue to be replenished for biomass energy purposes.

Multi fuel Stoves

Multi fuel stoves give you all the benefits of wood burning along with the option to use solid fuel as an alternative.

There is no getting away from the fact that burning wood is much more environmentally friendly than burning fossil fuels but if solid fuel is readily available for you locally, then a multi fuel stove enables you to use whichever fuel is most convenient at any given time.

Biomass can be used on a domestic scale and an industrial scale too.  In order to use biomass as a heating fuel in a home you can install either a boiler or alternatively by using a wood burning stove, such a s a wood pellet stove or multi fuel stove.

Modern day stoves can bring a great focal point and great heat source to your home.

At Stove Shop, Cornwall we have great experience in installing Multifuel stoves and wood pellet stoves.
