ASBESTOS REMOVAL
Many buildings contain asbestos, which was used in thermal system insulation and numerous other materials. Before the ban on “popcorn ceilings” the use of Asbestos was a common practice in the construction of homes. The “popcorn ceiling” is a source of dangerous Asbestos, and therefore initiates a health need to remove the Asbestos present in the home and get the same verified in a competent laboratory. Typically, asbestos was "flocked" above false ceilings, inside technical ducts, and in many other small spaces where access was difficult. Asbestos also poses special hazards to maintenance services who have to drill holes in walls for installation of cables or pipes. Because of this it is essential and crucial to determine the location of Asbestos, and then remove and dispose of it.

Even if workers are protected, such maintenance operation may release fibres into the air, which may be inhaled by other users later. As a consequence, interventions in areas where asbestos is present often have to follow stringent procedures. The removal of asbestos from a building is quite difficult because of the above constraints. If removal is to be performed when users are still present in the building, it is usually necessary to relocate some of them temporarily. |
|
Typically, the part of the building from which asbestos is being removed has to be sealed off in order to prevent contamination of the other areas. Once the building is closed to normal users, it is necessary to seal it off from outside atmosphere so that no accessible air is contaminated.
However, depending on how and where asbestos was applied, it might not pose any risk to the users of the building. If the fibres cannot dislodge themselves, they cannot be inhaled, and subsequently the risk is absent.
ASBESTOS - HEALTH HAZARD

|
Strong concerns about the health hazards associated with asbestos had been described many times over the years, as early as 1898.
The fine asbestos fibres are easily inhaled, and can cause a number of respiratory complaints, including a potentially serious lung fibrosis called asbestosis.
Exposure to asbestos has also been determined to cause a very serious form of lung cancer. When inhaled, asbestos is carcinogenic (i.e. promotes cancer) and this has a synergistic effect with tobacco smoking in the causation of lung cancer.
Subsequently, it is crucial to have your home inspected for asbestos and when needed removed and destroyed effeciently to keep you, your family and your home safe from harm. |
