Changes in the law implemented over the last decade mean that there are now some restricition in place as to who is allowed to carry out large electrical wiring projects in homes in England and Wales. Any significant work has to be completede out by certified, competant electrician. In much the same way that work on domestic gas appliances has to be performed by technicians who are Gas Safe (formally Corgi) registered.
This change was brought about due to increased awareness of the dangers posed by the work of amateur DIY electricians. Electricity is potentially dangerous, which is why A1 Electrical are NICEIC approved. This means that our work is done in accordance with strict industry guidelines, and you can be sure of the safety of any installations that we carry out.
These Part P regulations mean that if you are having an extension, loft conversion, conservatory, or even a new kitchen, you may fall under these rules. While many people may be tempted to reduce their costs by doing these jobs yourself, you could find yourself in violation of the building regulations. Of course, you could also cause a fault which would result in a fire, which is why the rules were brought in.
Electricity needs to be respected, which is why you should always call in a professional for anything more than the smallest jobs. Of course, if you don't know what you are doing, then the smallest jobs can still be dangerous. Our Exeter electricians are happy to take on small jobs, and with honest pricing you can comfortably leave it to someone who knows what they are doing. |
