We apologise for the fact that there is invariably a waiting list for our traditional Bain de Bateau. The reason is, simply, that it takes a couple of experienced craftsmen almost 10 days to complete one - and we are not prepared to compromise these skills and the eye for detail by setting up a production line.

Fortunately, no such delay should hamper your purchase of our bathsoaps - although their creation took no less input and their quality is equally uncompromised.

At the time when we started selling terracotta floor tiles in the Eighties, the choice and selection of glazed wall tiles in Britain - and most other places - was dire ! It took us a while to fully appreciate this anomaly and, indeed it was our customers - exasperated by their own fruitless searches around the tile market - who eventually sounded the call to arms.


We responded with a pile of clay and a bucket of iron oxide and set about trying to make a decent handmade tile.
